How to create a quiz with an AI quiz generator (step by step)
Create custom, interactive quizzes with AI in minutes: pick a source, set question types, review the draft, then share, play live or study it.

1. Decide what the quiz is for
A quiz to check homework, a revision quiz before an exam and a fun live game for a class need different settings. Write one sentence before you start: 'I want to check whether students can identify the stages of mitosis.' That sentence guides the source you pick and the questions you keep.
2. Choose a focused source
AI does best with a single chapter, lecture or topic. A 300-page textbook produces shallow, scattered questions; one 10-page section produces focused ones. Paste notes, upload a PDF, or use a video link if your lesson was recorded.
If you only have a topic name, AI can still draft questions from general knowledge — just review them more carefully, because there is no source to keep them on track.
3. Pick question types and length
Multiple choice is fastest to mark and great for recall. Written-response questions test explanation. Matching pairs suit vocabulary and definitions. Timed rounds add pressure for practice before an exam.
Ten to fifteen questions is a good default. Long quizzes lose attention, and every extra question is one more to check.
4. Review before anyone sees it
Read each question once. Delete duplicates, fix ambiguous wording and check that exactly one option is correct. Add your own question if an important idea is missing.
- Is the correct answer actually supported by the source?
- Could any wrong option also be argued as right?
- Does the question make sense on its own?
- Is the difficulty right for the audience?
5. Make it interactive
An interactive quiz gives instant feedback, shows explanations and lets people play together. In Prepin Quiz you can share a link anyone can play, host a live room where players join with a code, or turn the same material into flashcards for spaced review.
For classrooms, optional anti-cheat settings and a results dashboard help you see who answered what without collecting paper.
Turning a weak question into a strong one
Weak: 'What about photosynthesis?'
Answer
Strong: 'Which gas do plants absorb during photosynthesis? A) Oxygen B) Carbon dioxide C) Nitrogen D) Hydrogen'
Doing it in Prepin Quiz
Sign in, choose Create, then pick AI generation. Add your topic, notes, PDF or YouTube link, choose the number of questions and confirm the credit cost shown. Edit the draft, then publish, share or start a live room. A standalone AI quiz costs 6 credits plus 3 credits for every 5 questions.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to create a quiz with AI?
Generation usually takes under a minute. Plan another two to five minutes to review and edit.
